Burlington .....

Cheery trees planted in Spencer Smith park.
The park is situated between Lakeshore road and Lake Ontario, not far from the city centre.
They were a gift from Burlington's twin city - Itabashi, Japan, and are now firmly established, thanks to some TLC ....

Burlington ....

Mount Nemo on the Niagara Escarpment .....
Check out this post's video link below, it's worth it .....

Mount Nemo is a conservation area that sits on the edge of the Niagara Escarpment.
Not being far from Burlington's sprawl, it attracts people from the city, and introduces them to nature.
My photos really don't do the area justice.

Burlington ....

N - ice rink .....

I spotted this cool backyard ice rink while walking Dylan (our golden retriever) the other day. It was around minus ten at the time.
The owner of the house was smoothing the surface when I paused for a chat, and he kindly let me take this photo.
He explained the technique of building one, but seeing as have never ice skated in my life before, I can't see myself constructing one anytime soon ....

One man and his dog ....

Two Cardinals ....

Taken in my back garden just before the snow arrived.
You don't often see two males together like this.
Maybe they're gay ....

Twas the night before Christmas .....

Well - nearly ....

The "Twas the night before Christmas" can be read in its entirety by clicking here ....

Wheels, levers and knobs ....

A photo of an old Brown and Sharpe surface grinder that I tried to avoid working on.
The days of Brown and Sharpe making grinding machines are gone.
Now they concentrate on manufacturing measuring equipment, a fine example of which can be seen by clicking here.

But I can't complain. It was just above zero when I took this, as you can see by the drips ....

Burlington canal ....

This canal leads from Lake Ontario into Hamilton harbour. The photo was taken from the old lift bridge, that (very slowly) has to be raised to allow ships to pass.
An interactive panorama of the canal and bridges can be seen by clicking here

Burlington ....

Lakeside ....

From my old, closed Yahoo blog, these shots were taken in the Burlington shoreline of Lake Ontario.
When I first saw it, I couldn't believe that a lake could be so big. Just to emphasise a bit, Lake Ontario is also one of the smaller Great Lakes.
I've always been used to seeing land on the opposite side of my lakes, not just water disappearing over the horizon!!
